面临胶葛时，很多人或许都在无意间扮演或充当过一个人物——“和事老”。

“和事老”，也写作“和事佬”，字面意思是“调解争端的人（mediator, someone who tries to bring peace）”。“和事”指“停息事情或争端、调理纷争（mediate, make peace）”，“佬”表明“成年男人（guy, fellow）”。

“和事老”一般带有贬义，特指不讲准则、不问对错而一味劝两边宽和的人（person who is more concerned with stopping the bickering than settling the issue）。

例句：

你今日可得说个谁对谁错，不能遇事总当和事佬。
